Coast Inc's Corner Chat: Kanyon Snyder

Drawn to outdoor activities like snowboarding and trips to Lake Tahoe, Kanyon stayed in Reno after graduating with a degree in business management, and found a great career at Coast Inc. A hard worker with a career-driven mindset, Kanyon has found Coast Inc. to be a transformative experience. The fast-paced environment and strong mentorship culture have been pivotal in his rapid growth, including building his own successful team. In a recent interview, he highlights how having access to countless mentors who are always willing to help has made a significant impact on his career development and success.

Q: How did you hear about Coast Inc?

A:  I was just scrolling through Indeed, looking at different jobs, and this one popped out at me. It was for sales and marketing, and I liked the name of the company. What really drew me in was reading about how the company works, especially the merit-based program. The idea that you can move up quickly really appealed to me.

I also checked out some reviews online, and they mentioned how it's like a family here. Everyone is really close and hangs out together, which sounded great. It’s a fun environment with team nights and one-on-one time. After graduating, it was tough finding the right opportunities in the areas I wanted, so when I saw the entry-level position, I thought, 'Perfect!' It felt like a good way to get my foot in the door and see where it could take me.

Q: What is it like to work with Coast Inc?

A:  I love it here. I've only been working for about four or five months, but in that short time, I’ve grown so much—my leadership, communication, sales, and people skills have all improved.

The environment here is amazing. I love that the people I hang out with outside of work are the same ones I work with. It's just a fun place to be, with things like team nights every week, setting and hitting goals with the office, and doing fun activities. Like, about a month ago, we went out to Tahoe with Nicole and rented boats for the day. It’s just a great vibe.

Q: How has Coast Inc. helped you achieve your goals?

A:  I really appreciate the mentor aspect of the business. I’ve been able to take full advantage of that, learning from people who were once in my position and are now successful. It's great to get those little golden nuggets of advice from them—to figure out what works for me and what doesn’t—and then apply that knowledge in my own way.

Q: What does working at Coast Inc. mean to you?

A:  It’s amazing—such a rare opportunity. You don’t find many businesses where you get to work side by side with the CEO every day. That means the world to me. It’s given me the chance to get my foot in the door, and the CEO genuinely cares, reaching out daily to help me level up, grow my skills, and move up in the company. There aren’t many places where you find that kind of support and people who actually want to see you succeed.

Q: How does Coast fit your personality?

A: I like being around people and meeting new faces. Right now, I’m in the process of learning how to build my own team, and I love doing interviews, meeting new people, and attracting future talent to the company. It fits my personality, but honestly, it’s also helped me grow a lot.

Before I started working, I was super shy. My first few days meeting with customers in person, I was really nervous about doing sales. Now, I have no problem with that—I can talk to anyone about anything. It's really boosted my communication skills and helped me grow overall.

Q: What is the funniest or most meaningful memory that you have of working here?

A: Probably on the boat day. We pulled up to this cliff for some cliff jumping, and to get up there, you had to swim around to the back. It wasn’t something you could just climb—there were these long ropes you had to use to pull yourself all the way up. So, we climbed up, jumped off, and headed back to the boat.

As soon as we got back, Taylor, one of Coast’s managers, saw us and immediately wanted to try it. He just jumped right into the water. I asked Nicole, 'Where’s Taylor?' and she said he saw us jump, so now he’s off to do it. So, I figured, alright, I’ll go for round two. When I got there, he was already halfway up the rope, just sitting there. I called up to him, 'You good?' and he was like, 'Well, I don’t really have a choice now, I’ve gotta go up. I can’t go back down!' He finally made it to the top, but getting him to jump off was a struggle. He was like, 'Someone just send a helicopter to pick me up!'

Q: What advice would you give to candidates?

A: This whole program is a management training program, so if you’re trying to figure out if sales or this company is the right fit for you, come in and try it out. I always say give it at least a week—by the fourth or fifth day, things usually start to click. If it works for you, that’s awesome. The skills you’ll learn here—sales, people skills, communication—are valuable no matter what. Even if you decide a year from now that it’s not the right fit, those skills will stay with you wherever you go. So, come in, give it a real shot, and I don’t think you’ll regret it.
